In a decisive showdown in the 4A Oswego Regional Semifinals, the Bolingbrook Raiders cruised to a resounding 86-53 victory over Naperville Central, securing their spot in the regional championship game. With standout performances across the board, the Raiders’ powerful offensive display overshadowed the Redhawks, who struggled to keep up with Bolingbrook’s fast-paced attack.
Bolingbrook wasted no time in establishing dominance, with sophomore sensation Brady Pettigrew leading the charge. He hit a quick three-pointer early on, setting the tone for what would be a high-scoring opening quarter. The Raiders’ offensive firepower continued as Pettigrew and his teammates relentlessly attacked the rim and drained shots from beyond the arc.
Naperville Central, led by senior Ty Hughes, fought to keep the game competitive. Hughes’ second-chance basket, following an offensive rebound, brought the Redhawks within striking distance. However, Bolingbrook’s defense tightened, and they ended the first quarter with a comfortable 27-17 lead.
As the second quarter unfolded, Bolingbrook’s depth began to shine through. Senior Jeremy McCullum provided a scoring spark, driving to the basket for an easy layup. McCullum’s efforts, combined with Pettigrew’s scoring and leadership, built the Raiders’ lead to 54-28 by halftime. Despite Naperville Central’s attempts to battle back, including a couple of missed three-point shots and a few turnovers, they were unable to find an offensive rhythm against Bolingbrook’s pressure defense.
The second half saw no letup from the Raiders, who continued to pour on the points. Bolingbrook’s aggressive ball movement resulted in multiple three-pointers, including a crucial one from Trey Brost, further widening their lead. Despite the Redhawks’ efforts, including a strong drive from Tj Hillman and a few contested shots inside, Bolingbrook’s offensive juggernaut proved too much to overcome.
With their lead insurmountable, Bolingbrook didn’t ease up. A thunderous dunk by TJ Williams electrified the crowd and sealed the victory for the Raiders. Marlon Williams, contributing to the team’s relentless scoring, added a key jump shot, further breaking the Redhawks’ defense down.
Despite a few final attempts by Naperville Central to claw back, including a late basket from Mitchell Mares, the Raiders maintained their firm grip on the game. Bolingbrook’s overwhelming offensive power and defensive control secured them an 86-53 win, propelling them to the regional final, where they will face Plainfield East.
Bolingbrook’s victory was marked by balanced scoring and unrelenting defense, with Pettigrew leading the charge. The Raiders will look to carry this momentum into the championship game as they aim to secure a place in the next round of the playoffs. Naperville Central, though outmatched, fought valiantly throughout the game, led by Hillman and Hughes, but ultimately fell short against Bolingbrook’s all-around dominance.
