The City of Naperville is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Randolph as its new Director of Public Works. Randolph, who brings over 20 years of civil engineering and public works management experience, was chosen following an extensive selection process. His wealth of expertise in managing large-scale public works projects and operations made him the ideal candidate for the role.
Randolph joins Naperville from the Village of Schaumburg, where he served as the Assistant Director of Engineering and Public Works. In this capacity, he played a pivotal role in shaping the department’s strategic direction, overseeing a $45 million operating budget, and spearheading several high-profile capital improvement projects. Among his significant accomplishments, Randolph managed the design, demolition, and construction of Schaumburg Village Hall, a major project that contributed to the community’s infrastructure growth.
Under Randolph’s leadership, Schaumburg’s public works department was recognized with the prestigious 2022 American Public Works Association (APWA) awards, earning accolades for excellence in asset management and snow and ice control. This success further highlights his ability to drive results in public works and infrastructure management.
“We are thrilled to have Dan Randolph join our team as the new Director of Public Works,” said Doug Krieger, Naperville City Manager. “His extensive background in engineering and public service, coupled with his proven leadership, makes him the perfect fit for this role. We are confident that he will continue to enhance the high standards of service that our community expects.”
Randolph’s career in civil engineering began as a Geotechnical Engineer, where he gained a solid foundation in the field. In 2004, he transitioned to the public sector, starting with the Village of Niles as a Civil Engineer II and later serving as an Assistant Engineer for the Village of Mount Prospect. In these roles, Randolph worked on a variety of infrastructure projects, including streetscapes, street resurfacing, and sewer and water main improvements.
His dedication to advancing public works and improving city services led him to serve on the APWA Asset Management Committee starting in 2021, where he has been an influential member and will assume the role of chair for the 2025-2026 term.
Randolph holds both a Master of Public Administration (MPA) and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering (MSCE), along with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois. His strong educational background further complements his hands-on experience in the public works field.
“I am deeply honored to join the City of Naperville as its new Director of Public Works,” said Randolph. “Naperville’s reputation for outstanding customer service and its commitment to excellence in public works is one that I hold in high regard. I look forward to collaborating with the talented team here to continue enhancing the city’s infrastructure and quality of life for all residents.”
As Randolph takes the reins of Naperville’s Public Works Department, his expertise and leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of the city’s infrastructure, public services, and community projects. With a focus on innovation, efficiency, and community engagement, Randolph is poised to make a lasting impact in Naperville’s ongoing development.
